Reading Old Cemetery

About the project

Reading Old Cemetery undertaking Project (#ROCuP) is a collaboration between the University of Reading and many members of the local community who have kindly given up their time and shared their vast knowledge, research and life stories about Reading Old Cemetery and those interred there.

Funding from the John Sykes Foundation through the University of Reading Community Fund enabled the #ROCuP project, which started in September 2021. Thank you to Annette Haworth, Chair of RGSpaces, for her support in developing the website. Thank you to Leslee Barron, digital artist, for taking some amazing photos of our cemetery work!

The project is community-focused and community-led. Its aims are history, heritage & education and its outputs include this website, a GPS-enabled audio guide and forthcoming ‘Death by Podcast’ series of interviews. A big and developing part of this project is education and work with schools.

The site aims to act as a portal for resources that relate to gaining understanding of and appreciation for this important historical burial site.
